A comparison

What your money buys
at home. And what it
buys eleven hours away.

This page sets two things side by side. On the left, the care a British fifty-something can actually buy in Britain this month, at the price the market charges. On the right, a five-day medical programme in Bangkok, built around one person's diagnostics, at a price we publish.

Decide for yourself. We have put our number, and theirs, in the same table further down.

In Britain

A morning of tests, and a letter

A private health screen: bloods, blood pressure, a consultant's summary posted to you. Then you go home and wait, as one of 7.4 million people on the list for anything further.

£800 – £1,199Half a day. Nothing is done to you.

Kin Origin Healthcare Center, Sukhumvit 107, Bangkok

In Bangkok

Five days, eleven appointments, one building

Doctor on arrival, baseline laboratory work, then the protocol your results indicate — hyperbaric oxygen, red light, hydrotherapy, IV nutrition. Two days on the coast. A written review before you fly.

฿120,000 ≈ £2,690Five days. Hotel and flights not included.

UK waiting figures: The King's Fund / NHS England referral-to-treatment data. Screening prices: Nuffield Health and Bupa published rates, September 2026. Full comparison, including where we are not the cheaper option, is set out in “How this compares” below.

Before the numbers

Eleven hours and fifty-five minutes.

That is the whole distance now. One night, one aircraft, no connection.

You leave Heathrow in the afternoon and you sleep badly, the way everyone does. Then the cabin lights come up over the Andaman Sea and you land into a morning that is already twenty-nine degrees and smells faintly of rain on hot concrete. A driver is holding a card with your surname on it. That is the last decision you have to make for five days.

The building is on Sukhumvit, eight storeys, glass and white render, a garden on the roof with the Bangkok skyline behind it. Inside it is cool and quiet and smells of nothing at all, which is what a good clinical building smells like. Somebody takes your blood before nine. By lunchtime a doctor has your numbers in front of her and is deciding what happens on Tuesday.

On day three they drive you to the coast, because you cannot run a protocol like this and then sit in a meeting. On day five you fly home with a report and a slightly irritating habit of waking before your alarm.

This is not a spa. It is also not an ordeal. It is five days in which somebody competent takes the wheel.

Why you are reading this at all

You have not been ignored. You have been measured, and put in a queue.

Twice over. Once through your taxes. Once through your debit card. Neither one was built for a man who is not ill yet.

The King's Fund / NHS England referral-to-treatment data; Office for National Statistics, International Passenger Survey, 2024 release.

None of that is an argument against the NHS. In an emergency it is one of the finest systems on earth, and if something is actually wrong with you, that is exactly where you should be. It was simply never designed for the well-but-declining man in his fifties, and it has never pretended to be.

So you went private and met the second version of the same thing. A morning of tests, a letter, a leaflet about walking more. An industry whose product is information about you — paid the same whether it finds something or nothing, and with nothing to sell you when it doesn't.

And underneath both, the shelf. Seventy pounds a month of magnesium and NMN. A ring that grades your sleep out of a hundred. A subscription to watching the problem.

Half a million Britons a year have already stopped waiting. Most of them went for teeth, or hair, or a new hip. Almost nobody is going for the thing that would actually help at fifty-one.

Why Thailand, and why now

A country that decided medicine was its next industry.

This is not an accident of cheap labour. Thailand has spent a decade building medical care into national policy, and 2026 is the year it went loud about it. The Prime Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, has named the medical and healthcare industry a key growth engine for the country, under a ten-year national strategy to make Thailand a global medical hub.

Sources: Royal Thai Government (thailand.go.th); Tourism Authority of Thailand statements on the 2026 medical and wellness tourism push. TAT's own campaign concept for the year is Healing Journey Thailand.

What that means for you in practice is dull and useful: the paperwork works, the hospitals are inspected, the companion who comes with you can legally stay, and a government with something to prove is watching the standard of the sector.

Healing is the new luxury — that is the Tourism Authority's own line for 2026, not ours.

Where you will actually be

Kin Origin, Sukhumvit 107.

Eight storeys. Fifty-eight beds. A rehabilitation hospital built inside a wellness complex by one of Thailand's listed property developers — not a villa with a massage room and a website.

Fifty-eight beds is the number that matters

Bumrungrad has more than five hundred. Bangkok's big international hospitals move tens of thousands of foreign patients a year, and they are very good at it, in the way that airports are very good at moving people.

This is a small building and it stays small. Fifty-eight beds, a handful of international programmes running at a time, and a doctor who has read your labs before she meets you rather than during. Nobody here is optimising throughput. You will be recognised in the corridor by day two — which sounds like a soft benefit until you have experienced the alternative.

The mechanism

The Bio-Reset Sequence

Eleven appointments across five days. Nine of them inside the first forty-eight hours. Four steps, in a fixed order, none longer than an hour, nearly all of it lying down.

  1. Pressure

Hyperbaric oxygen chamber. You lie down, the chamber is pressurised, you breathe.

  2. Light

Full-body red light therapy, two sessions, on a clinical panel array rather than a spa bed.

  3. Clearance

Medical colon hydrotherapy, performed inside the hospital by its own staff.

  4. Fuel

High-dose intravenous nutrition, or PMST bodywork. The doctor chooses which on day one, from your labs.

The claim is the order and the calendar, not the machines. Every one of these exists in London and you could book all of them yourself. You would get the chamber on a Tuesday in March, your bloods back three weeks later, the drip in May if you remembered to rebook. Four months to half-finish a sequence that is only a sequence when it runs across five consecutive days in one building.

It isn't the equipment you're missing. It's the diary — and a place where all of it is on the same floor.

Why the room is not in the price

Because you would be paying a resort markup on a room you did not choose. A retreat sells you five nights of its own accommodation at its own rate and calls the total a package. That is where most of the money goes.

We are a hospital in Bangkok, not an estate you have to be marooned on. So pick your own — the Mandarin Oriental if this is also an anniversary, a good boutique on Sukhumvit at four thousand baht a night if it isn't. Tell us your dates and budget and we will book it for you at cost, with no commission added. Or ignore us entirely and use your own points.

How this compares — the full basis

Published so you can check the comparison rather than take our word for it. These are different products; the point is the shape of the market, not a like-for-like swap.

What you can buyPrice
A private UK health screen — half a day, bloods, consultant letter (Nuffield 360+, Bupa comprehensive)£800–£1,199
London executive health screening, with imaging£3,000–£5,000
Echelon Health Platinum, London — five to six hours of whole-body MRI, CT and ultrasound. Diagnostics only: no therapy, no room, no transfers£14,000
Chiva-Som, Hua Hin — seven nights via a UK agent, room and full board included, one treatment per night£3,899–£5,599
Clinique La Prairie, Montreux — seven days, room and board includedfrom CHF 31,800
This programme — five days, eleven appointments, room not included≈ £2,690

Sources: providers' own published rates and UK price guides, September 2026. The Chiva-Som figure is a UK specialist agent's advertised rate. Add a Bangkok hotel at roughly £70–£180 a night, plus a flight, to compare totals honestly.

The straight version: once you add a hotel, this is not the cheapest way to spend five days in Thailand, and a resort week can come in under it. What you cannot buy at any of these prices is eleven appointments in five days with a doctor, a laboratory and a hyperbaric chamber in the same building — and £14,000 in London still only measures you.

Before you ask

The questions everyone sends back

Is this a spa week with a stethoscope?

No, and if that is what you want you will be disappointed. Day two is five appointments back to back, including colon hydrotherapy. There is a doctor on intake, a laboratory, and a written biomarker review before you fly. Days three and four are genuinely a holiday, deliberately.

Can my wife or husband come?

Yes, and most people do. They are welcome on the transfers and the coastal days. Clinical appointments are per person — if they want the programme too it is the same price. Thailand's medical visa route is designed for companions to stay for the whole trip. Tell us on the form and we will quote for two.

What if I am on medication, or have something ongoing?

Say so on the enquiry. A doctor reviews every intake before anything is confirmed, and some people are told this is not appropriate for them. This programme is preventative and restorative — it is not treatment for a diagnosed condition, and it does not replace the care of your own GP or consultant.

How far in advance should I book?

Four to six weeks is comfortable, mostly for the flight. There are fifty-eight beds in the building and only a small number of international programmes run at a time, so the constraint is real rather than a sales line.

What actually happens after I send the form?

A person telephones you on the number you give, at a UK-friendly hour. Bangkok is six hours ahead, so expect the call in your morning. You get the full itinerary, the medical intake questions and a written quote. No deposit is taken on that call.

Who am I dealing with?

META Esthetic International Co., Ltd — a Thai company — working with KIN, a rehabilitation hospital group founded in 2018 and operating six branches in Thailand under Ministry of Public Health certification. Company details, address and telephone number are at the bottom of this page.
